MaxRecovery Timer (“the App”, formerly MaxSauna Timer) is a Pixel Watch (Wear OS) and Android phone app that times hot-bath and sauna sessions and records heart-rate-based data. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App handles and how.
The developer does not operate any server and does not collect, receive, or store your personal data. Your session data, heart-rate data, and location data stay on your devices (your watch and your phone) as local files. The App has no developer-side cloud account and no login to the developer. When your watch and phone are paired, finished sessions are transferred directly from the watch to the phone over the Wearable Data Layer (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi); they are not routed through the developer or any cloud of the App. The developer has no access to your data. (If Android’s backup is turned on for your devices, Android may also back up a copy of the App’s data to your Google Account — see Section 3.)
Cloud sync is optional and goes only to your own Google Drive. If you choose to turn it on (Settings → Cloud sync (Google Drive) → “Sync with Google Drive”), the App stores a snapshot of your sessions in your own Google Drive’s app-private (“App Data”) folder, under your Google account. This is free where it is available (Cloud sync is rolling out gradually and may not yet be available for your Google account). The developer still operates no server and holds nothing — your data goes to your Drive, not to the developer, and the developer cannot access it. Cloud sync is off until you sign in / tap Sync; if you never use it, your data stays on your devices exactly as before. See Section 6 for details.
If you choose to connect Health Connect, the App can read and write certain health data on your device through Health Connect, with your explicit permission. This stays on your device and is never sent to the developer — see Section 5 for details.
| Category | Examples | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Heart-rate data | Heart-rate samples read live from the watch’s optical sensor during a session (none for a session recorded without heart rate — see Section 4) | Show session history, heart-rate charts, recovery analytics, and the “Afterglow Score” |
| Location data | Precise location (latitude/longitude) captured at the end of each session, only if you grant Location (approximate if you choose “Approximate” in the system dialog) | Saved with each session as the venue location, and used to show that session’s map, the Venue Map of all your sessions’ locations, and your past-visited venues within about 500 m; sent to Google to load the maps, and for a nearby-venue search only when you tap “Find nearby venues” |
| Session data | Session times, phases, computed scores, the venue name you enter, a 1–5 star rating, the reason heart rate was unavailable (if it was), and — only when something went wrong during recording — a short technical note (for example, that the heart-rate sensor stopped or the app restarted) | Core app functionality and troubleshooting recording problems |
| Health Connect data (optional) | Resting heart rate, Sleep, and Respiratory rate read from Health Connect; exercise + heart-rate records written to Health Connect — only if you connect it | Show a resting-HR reference line, a next-day Sleep score / respiratory-rate reference, and let other apps use your sessions |
| Cloud sync data (optional) | A snapshot of your sessions, plus a list of deleted sessions (session IDs and deletion times only), stored in your own Google Drive’s app-private folder, only if you turn on Cloud sync | Back up your sessions, move them between your devices, and keep deleted sessions from coming back |
| Settings | Your age (used to estimate your maximum heart rate), phase times, heart-rate thresholds and other settings, synced between the watch and the phone | Run the timer and alerts; the age is also printed on the PDF report |
| Deletion records | Session IDs and deletion times of the sessions you deleted, kept on your phone (no heart-rate, location or venue data) | Keep deleted sessions from coming back from the watch or from Cloud sync |
| Advertising data | Device information, the advertising ID, ad-interaction information, the IP address (from which Google may estimate an approximate location), and your ad-consent choices, handled by Google AdMob and Google’s User Messaging Platform (only without Premium, except the consent check described in Section 8) | Show banner ads and manage ad consent |
The App has no account or login. It does not ask for your name or email. You can enter your age in the watch settings (on the watch, or under Settings → Watch settings on the phone); it is used to estimate your maximum heart rate, synced between the watch and the phone like other settings, and printed on the PDF report you create. Like other settings, it stays on your devices and is not sent to the developer.
The App reads heart rate live from the watch’s optical sensor via Wear OS Health Services during a session. Health Connect is optional and, only when you connect it, the App reads and writes specific data through it (see Section 5). The App does not access any other apps’ health data except through Health Connect with your permission.
When you open the session map / venue feature, the App shows a Google Map of that session’s end location, which sends those coordinates to Google so it can load the map. The App looks up nearby sauna/bath facility suggestions through Google Maps / Google Places only when you tap “Find nearby venues” (up to 5 searches a day per device); it never searches automatically. Each search sends that session’s end-location coordinates (the device location recorded when the session ended) to Google so it can fetch the nearby places. Google’s handling of that data is governed by Google’s own privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy); the developer receives nothing.
The suggestions are shown for reference only. They are kept only in the phone’s memory for up to 30 minutes and are never saved — not in your session files, backups, Cloud sync, CSV, PDF, or Health Connect. The only venue names the App saves are the ones you type in yourself (or bring in with CSV import). Your past-visited venues within about 500 m, shown before any search, are those names read from the local session files on your device; showing them does not search Google, and they are not sent to the developer.
The App reads heart-rate samples from the watch’s optical sensor (via Wear OS Health Services) only while a session is running, to power its features: session history, heart-rate charts, and recovery analytics such as the Afterglow Score and HRR (heart-rate recovery at 1/3/5 minutes after the sauna peak).
Sessions without heart rate. If heart rate can’t be read — for example, the Heart rate permission is not granted, the watch has no heart-rate sensor, or no readings arrive — the App keeps timing without heart rate and shows “Heart rate unavailable” on the watch. It never substitutes demo or estimated values. The session is saved with its times and phases, marked as recorded without heart rate, and, if known, the reason (for example, “heart rate permission off”). Such sessions are stored, transferred and synced like other sessions, are not used to calculate scores, and are exported to Health Connect as exercise only.
Health Connect is optional and off until you connect it in Settings → Health Connect. If you do not connect it, the App works exactly as before, with no health-data integration. When you connect it, you grant each permission explicitly through the system Health Connect screen, and you can change or revoke those permissions at any time in Health Connect (your device’s system settings on Android 14 and later, or the Health Connect app on earlier versions).
With your permission, the App:
This data flows only between the App and Health Connect on your device. It is governed entirely by your Health Connect permissions and stays on your device. It is never sent to the developer, never used for advertising, never shared with Google AdMob or any other advertising network, and never sold or shared with any third party. Health Connect data is not transmitted to any server operated by the developer or to any cloud of the App. The privacy screen that Health Connect opens for this App shows this policy.
Cloud sync is optional and off until you sign in / tap Sync. You turn it on in Settings → Cloud sync (Google Drive) by tapping “Sync with Google Drive”. It is free where it is available (it is rolling out gradually and may not yet be available for your Google account). If you never use it, your data stays on your devices (Watch ↔ Phone over the Wearable Data Layer) exactly as before, with no cloud involved.
When you turn it on, you sign in with Google and grant the drive.appdata
permission. With that permission, the App stores and retrieves a snapshot of
your sessions in your Google Drive’s app-private (“App Data”) folder — a
hidden area of your Drive reserved for this app. Sync is two-way: it merges
sessions between your device and your Drive, so you can back up your sessions
and move them between devices. Syncing runs only when you tap the sync button.
The folder also holds a list of the sessions you deleted (session IDs and deletion times only), so that a deletion reaches your other synced devices and deleted sessions don’t come back. If the cloud data can’t be fetched or read, or if saving would reduce the number of sessions in the cloud, the App stops without changing the cloud data.
Crucially, this snapshot goes to your own Google Drive, under your own Google
account — not to the developer. The developer still operates no server and
stores nothing. The drive.appdata scope only lets the App see this app’s
own App Data folder; it does not give the App (or the developer) access to the
rest of your Drive, and the developer cannot access your synced data.
You stay in control:
The App’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy (https://developers.google.com/terms/api-services-user-data-policy), including the Limited Use requirements. Data from Google Drive is used only to provide Cloud sync to you; it is never transferred to the developer or others, never used for advertising, and never read by humans.
The App requests only the permissions it needs. On the watch, the permissions below are explained on a “Before you start” screen and requested when you first start a session, not at app launch.
BODY_SENSORS permission). If
you deny it, the App keeps timing without heart rate and shows “Heart rate
unavailable”; it does not use substitute data (see Section 4). The App does not
request background access for it; heart rate is read only while a session is
running in the foreground service.drive.appdata (optional): used only if you
turn on Cloud sync, to store and retrieve a snapshot of your sessions in your
own Google Drive’s app-private folder (see Section 6). It is limited to this
app’s own App Data folder and can be revoked at any time.Without a Premium subscription, the App shows banner ads through Google AdMob. AdMob is a third-party service operated by Google and may collect device information, an advertising identifier, and ad-interaction data to deliver and measure ads, in accordance with Google’s policies.
The App is built on Google Play Services and may include Firebase components. These may collect standard diagnostic and crash logs as part of their normal, transparent operation, governed by Google’s privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). This is not used to identify you to the developer, and your sauna/heart-rate data is not included.
In-app review (Google Play): when you open a session from the History tab, the App may ask Google Play to show its in-app review screen (only after you have 3 or more sessions, at most once per app version, and at least 120 days apart). Google Play decides whether the screen appears, and any rating or review you post is handled by Google Play under Google’s policies; the developer does not receive it through the App. The App only records on your phone when it last asked and for which app version.
Premium is an auto-renewing subscription (with the plans shown on the Premium screen — monthly and, where offered, yearly — and a free period for first-time subscribers where offered) sold through Google Play Billing. Payments are processed by Google; the App never sees your payment details. The App receives only the status of your subscription from Google Play (for example, whether it is active or on hold) to turn Premium features on or off, and keeps that status on your phone. You can see the price, manage, or cancel the subscription in Google Play under Subscriptions.
Because the developer holds none of your personal data, there is no developer- side database to access, correct, or delete. You remain in full control:
For requests or questions, contact the developer at the address above.
The App is a wellness timer intended for general audiences and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect data from children.
Data is retained in local files on your devices until you delete it (by deleting sessions or uninstalling). The watch keeps its latest 20 sessions, plus any finished sessions the phone has not yet confirmed receiving. Deletion records (session IDs and deletion times) stay on your phone until you clear the App’s storage or uninstall it. If you used Cloud sync, the synced snapshot and deletion list stay in your own Google Drive’s app-private folder until you delete them there or revoke the App’s access. Any records written to Health Connect remain there until you delete them in Health Connect. If Android’s backup is on, a copy of the App’s data may also be kept in your Google Account’s backup, as managed by Google (see Section 3). The developer retains nothing.

権限はいつでも Health Connect(Android 14 以降は端末のシステム設定、それより前は Health Connect アプリ)から変更・取り消しできます。
Google
